Meditation and psychotherapy are two dynamic fields that are shaping contemporary understandings of consciousness and healing. A growing number of people who practice mindfulness meditation seek a form of psychotherapy which honors this wisdom tradition. I offer a blended psychotherapeutic approach which weaves together Buddhist psychology and psychodynamic understanding ("Contemplative Relational Psychotherapy"). I find that the natural synergy between them is helpful in cultivating wise understanding and compassion. On other pages of this website, you will find information that will give you a detailed picture of my clinical approach. In addition to doing psychotherapy with individuals and couples, I offer ongoing study/ consultation groups and teach seminars and workshops for mental health professionals who are interested in furthering the creative integration of meditation and clinical practice. I was co-founder of the Center for Mindfulness and Psychotherapy (CMP), one of the first organizations of its kind. CMP is accredited as a provider of Continuing Education for psychologists, MFT's and LCSW's in the State of California Over the years, CMP has offered many noteworthy programs, including a year-long certification program in Contemplative Relational Psychotherapy. CMP also organized the ground-breaking international conference in 1998 on Psychotherapy, Spirituality, and the Evolution of Mind, which featured Mark Epstein, Jeffrey Rubin, James Austin, and many other seminal thinkers in this field. At the present time, my primary professional commitment in addition to my clinical work is writing and teaching about the interface between meditation and psychotherapy. |
